INTRODUCTION
Warrants have become the most popular investment products in Asia with daily turnover commanding significant portion of major exchanges in Asia such as Hong Kong, China and Singapore. This seminar is designed to give participants an in-depth understanding on what warrants are and its application to achieve better return and lowering risks. It will highlight the differences on company warrants versus derivatives (structured) warrants. It will also take a look at the development of derivative warrants market in Hong Kong, the world leader and Singapore and how Malaysia stacks up with the new guideline of derivative warrants in attracting more issuers to conduct warrants business in Malaysia. Participants should be able to implement certain strategies to improve chances of making money with warrants after the seminar.
COURSE CONTENT
Introduction to Warrants The section introduces the concept of warrants and looks at the various types of warrants avialable in the market such as company warrants, structured warrants, call warrants, put warrants, basket warrants etc.
Factors Affecting the Price of Warrants This section takes a look at the various factors which affect the price of warrants. Six key factors discussed are underlying price, exercise price, expiry date, volatility, dividend and interest rates.
Basic Warrants Indicators - Premium, Gearing and CFP Basic warrants indicators such as premium, gearing and capital fulcrum point (CFP) would be introduced and discussed. Participants would be taught how to calculate these indicators using Bursa Malaysia listed warrants as example.
Advanced Warrants Indicators - Sensitivity Coefficients and Implied Volatility This section discusses how to use advanced warrants indicators to make warrants investment decision. Using Bursa Malaysia listed warrants as example, participants would be exposed to various advanced warrants indicators such as sensitivity coefficients (delta, gamma, vega, theta) and implied volatility.
Warrants Buying Strategy I - Trading This section takes a look at warrants trading strategy. What are the considerations which a trader has when making a warrants trade and what are the factors to look at before deciding which warrants to buy. Brief discussion on how the underlying company fundamental and technical conditions affect the warrants prices.
Warrants Buying Strategy II - Cash Extraction This section looks at how an investor can protect its profit position using warrants. Cash extraction allows the investor to lock in his/her profit while maintaining an upside exposure to the underlying securities.
Structured Warrants - The Most Popular Trading Instrument in the Region This section takes a look on the growing popularity of the warrants market in the regional exchanges such as those in Hong Kong, Singapore and China. Participants would learn how the stock exchanges and brokers in these markets have benefited from the increased trading volume of the warrants market there and how Malaysia can possibly shape up in the future with relations to the structured warrants market.
A Comparison of Structured Warrants and Options Warrants and Options are similar instruments although there are also key differences which separate these instruments. This section takes a look at the various characteristics of warrants and options and explore why warrants are more popular in Asian markets
Structured Warrants listed on Bursa Malaysia This section discusses the structured warrants which are now listed in Bursa Malaysia. Specific attention will be given to the issuance of basket warrants in Bursa Malaysia and its implication to the retail investors.

Alan Voon is the Chief Executive Officer of Warrants Capital Sdn. Bhd., a derivatives specialist education provider. AlanVoon is Malaysia’s premier warrants specialist, having researched and traded in the Malaysia warrants market for the last decade. He is the author of “Make Money Investing in Warrants on Bursa Malaysia”, the one and only book on warrants in Malaysia thus far.
Alan Voon graduated from Degroote School of Business, McMaster University of Canada in 1993 with a Master of Business Administration, majoring in Finance. He had completed an Honours Degree in Commerce majoring in Accounting before that in the same university.
